MEF was founded as the Mobile Entertainment Forum in 2001, so it has a strong heritage in media, content, and advertising. MEF’s Content and Advertising programme gives these members a forum through which they can promote the industry and launch initiatives to ensure consumer-facing products are safe and secure.
The MEF Payments programme unites specialists in payment technology, fraud prevention, messaging, user experience, regulation, and content, all driven by the belief that mobile payments have not yet reached their full potential. Together, they work to support and grow the industry by developing information resources, providing education and guidance for external stakeholders, offering a collaborative forum for solving challenges, creating opportunities to raise brand visibility, and establishing anti-fraud and self-regulation frameworks.
MEF Members have long shared a vision that the existing personal data model is not sustainable long term and that the question of mobile digital identity is at the core of so many challenges for customer experience and fraud. The Members of PD&I represent the entire value chain: MNOs, solution providers, law firms, marketing specialists, and more. They meet in a working group to produce deliverables to educate, monitor, and encourage the debate for a consumer-centric vision of data ownership and take-up of secure digital identity.
The MEF Connectivity & Wholesale programme brings together experts in roaming, voice, data, value-added services (VAS), and IoT who are committed to driving the evolution of the wholesale and 5G sectors. Through regular meetings, members collaborate to explore emerging industry strategies, stay updated on the latest innovations, combat fraud, track the transformation of voice and roaming services, and share best practice frameworks to support continuous improvement across the ecosystem.
The Messaging Channels programme brings together members from across the mobile communications value chain—including aggregators, anti-fraud specialists, and mobile network operators—who collaborate through regular working group meetings. Their goals are to promote the potential of mobile business communications, foster industry partnerships, educate the broader market on use cases, monitor technical and regulatory developments, and define as well as challenge instances of industry fraud.
